Boots Names Anthony Hemmerdinger as New Managing Director

Anthony Hemmerdinger succeeds Sabastian James who is stepping down after 6 years.

Boots UK and Ireland has appointed Anthony Hemmerdinger as Managing Director, effective November 4. Hemmerdinger succeeds Sebastian James who is stepping down after six years in the role. 
 
James announced his departure in June. 
 
Hemmerdinger joined Boots in 2022, before that he served as COO at Asda, managing operations across the UK supermarket’s portfolio. 
 
He also held leadership positions at MD Telecoms at Sainsbury’s supermarkets and as Retail and Contact Centres Director at mobile phone retailer Carphone Warehouse.
 
Ornella Barra, EVP, COO, International at Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA), the parent company of Boots, said, 
 
“Anthony is a great leader with extensive retail experience. His deep understanding of our business, passion for brilliant customer service, and strong relationships will ensure a seamless leadership transition. Anthony has successfully guided our retail and operations team through our change journey, which has delivered consistent growth across all our categories.”
